After seeing the download size I didn't expect very much from this course therefore I was pleasantly surprised at the way Tom utilized the small download to its fullest extent. No, this is not the masterpiece we all wait for, but it's a pleasant course that I enjoyed playing.
It has a good color blend of tees, fairways, roughs, and greens. There is an undergrowth he calls 'jungle', and there's a 'drop' zone, so be careful and keep your ball in the generous fairways. The fairways are not exceptionally large, but aren't the bowling alleys that we have seen on some courses of late. He used an open pano that makes the course look larger than it is.
The trim around the water hazards is attractive and again unexpected on a course this size.
The fairway bunkers have a very unusual and somewhat undesirable shape to them. They do not present a danger to the golfer.
On the other hand, the greens were protected in many cases by bunkers and water hazards that were well placed. The bunkers also were not well shaped, but not done as poorly as the ones around the fairways.
The trees seemed to set a theme for this course, but on each hole he would repeat the same trees over and over again instead of utilizing the large selection available to him.
The elevations were excellent and the caddie was very good.
As for the putting, it ranged from fairly easy to just below moderate. You won't struggle on these greens but you also won't get away with 15 foot gimmies.
Hole 6, par 4, 400y, with an early dogleg to the left, a draw seemed to be the logical choice here. Then you arrive at an unguarded green.
Hole 11, par 5, 578y, now the early dogleg is to the right and a fade is necessary. This time the green is guarded by three bunkers.
I found this to be a very playable course with some imagination shown as to the shape of the holes. The challenge was negligible so this is just another playable course. Don't confuse it with some of the courses we have been seeing lately that are poor efforts and not worth download time.
With the download size and the playability I would suggest this as an extra course for you, especially at this time when not too many new courses are being released .It would get lost in the shuffle at any other time.
Lets hope this is his last learner's course and that he can pack a winner into his next small download.
