COURSE NOTES
Extract from the readme...

If you ever thought of what it would feel like to play golf under the natural atmosphere of a forest, then Huntingdon is such a course. There is no rough, no sand, no water, no hazards and no out-of-bounds. Therefore, the texture of the surface is the same throughout. The effects produced transform fairways into clearings. To compensate for the lack of natural obstacles one might expect, the forest edge is moved inward where rough might possibly exist. Bushes spill out into the clearings at various points to recompense the absence of bunkers. Therefore, a bad shot will land in the forest. To help the player and to give the forest a sense of depth, I allowed a few more feet of playing space so a decent recovery may be achieved.

LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Designer: This is Veronica Weber's first course release.

Course: The artistic flair within Huntingdon is something that isn't often seen, but early on in the round, this originality disappears, as from hole to hole, there doesn't seem to be much that changes. Having bricks and lamp posts in every green, artistic or not, was certainly over the top in regard to a golf course design, while around the layout, there wasn't enough to keep the player stimulated, and repetition of certain aspects made that stand out even more so. The course really needed more elevation, and would have strongly benefited from some curves and undulations in both the fairway and the greens. Including only one tee also limits the lifespan of the course, as players have no opportunity to differ their round if they decided to play Huntingdon again. The sudden change in planting on the Par 3 Hole 15 was far too late, while the hole designs were far too tedious, with each one either being completely straight or containing just a slight curve. As this course was listed as being Imaginary, the look of the course was inventive and certainly artistic, but in the end, the repetitive nature of the hole designs and planting outweighed the creativeness of the design, which is a shame, as it was certainly an imaginative concept for a course.

Favourite Hole: The Par 3 on Hole 13 was my favourite hole on the course, as the length in addition to the downward elevation provided a different challenge, something that was too rare around the layout.

Playability: If you're looking for a course that will help better your statistics, than this will certainly appeal to you, as with no bunkers, rough or water, you'll only find yourself faced with a difficult shot if you hit deep into the surrounding trees. Considering that the greens are completely flat, any shot that lands close to the pin is as close as you'll ever get to a guaranteed birdie, as sinking putts from any length seems more than easy around the layout. As there aren't any hole previews, make sure you know where to hit on Hole 7, as you are unable to know by simply looking ahead, while because the bushes don't appear in the top view, that won't provide any help for you either. The Par 5's are not reachable, but if you worried about your score, there isn't a need to be concerned, as you'll more than likely make it up with the countless birdie opportunities that will occur around the course. With the lack of visual stimuli in the design, the Par 4's seem to become overly repetitive, so if your looking to better the enjoyment of Huntingdon, it might be wise to try some shots that you may not regularly use in your game, as any that don't come off probably won't hurt you anyhow.

Technically: On the first tee, a player will tend to notice two things with Huntingdon, with one being the different texture used for the fairway, and unfortunately, the second being the repetitive planting. In combination with the hole designs, the planting is the one thing that stands out the most, as for a course so simple in its design, the larger features of the course, that being the trees, will always stand out, and in this case, it isn't for the better. The look throughout the course is clean, but players will not see any advanced APCD such as seam blending around the layout, even more so because there are no hazards, with the only texture join being between the fairway and green. There aren't any APCD errors as such in this course, but considering how minimalist the use of the APCD was, it's hard to comment on the technical aspects of the course at all.

Other: The course contains a cameo, custom flag and splash screen, but doesn't include handicaps or hole previews. I don't discredit the designer for her artistic outlook in regard to the design of Huntingdon, but one has to remember, if you release a course to the public, one might expect it to appeal at least somewhat to a wide and varied audience, but in this case, it seems like the course design catered more for the tastes of just one person, the designer.

Download Value: At a bit over 21mb, the course is an easy download for any user, while even though you won't find much extras within the course, there are a few within the zip file to check out. If you're looking for a completely different playing experience, then this course may be for you, but it's far too monotonous for my liking, and thus will not be staying on my hard drive or being burnt to CD.
