COURSE NOTES |
Ever wanted to play fun crazy golf but on a 'full sized' course? Now you can.
Real crazy golf has deep pits, mountains, islands, multiple fairways, beaches & more.
The course has many traps but also has shortcuts for the skilful & brave.
The course will test all you golfing skills: Drive length & straightness, spot accuracy, next shot positioning & the ability to curve the ball. However, sometimes a little luck will be needed.
This is the final version with all the trimmings.
Hope you enjoy.

LINKS CORNER REVIEW |

Designer : There is no readme file included, so I assume that JPO is either his/her initials, or a handle. JPO has released no other course to LC.
Included : Cameo, Splash Screen
Not Included: Readme file, recorded round, tournament option
The Course: Real Crazy Golf is exactly as it sounds. Pretty crazy! This is likely the designer's first attempt, and it shows right away. The holes on RCG vary from the wild, to the impossible, to the ridiculous. The designer chose to use the stock Lakeside pano, although it is difficult to imagine a true setting for this course. There are many trees throughout, some directly in front of you on your tee shots, but they were virtually all the same tree, and the course becomes very repetative looking very quickly.
This will likely deter most downloaders from making the attempt, but the course is only a little over 8 megs, and one thing that RCG will do for you is make you use your imagination. There are several holes that require you to "hop scotch" to the green, from peak to peak, or island to island. There is a par 5 that can be driven from the tee, provided you are willing to carry 290 yards
of water to a green completely surrounded by tall trees. The other option is to take the long route along the fairway, which makes the hole actually measure well over 700 yards. Several other holes have your view from the tee completely obstructed, either by trees planted directly ahead of you, or large hills rising 70 feet into the air that you must climb.
While the elevation changes at RCG are dramatic, bordering on "Crazy", the greens are all relatively flat, and I sank my share of 40 footers in my practice rounds here.
The designer did take the time to plant a few "extras" here and there, including ball washers, benches, power carts, etc, and the finishing hole is a par 3 that must carry a giant rock quarry with the initials JPO carved into it.
Comments : As I said, this is likely JPO's first design, and if nothing else, the effort was certainly there to learn to use the APCD. The course is imaginary-slash-fantasy, certainly not meant to be realistic, but to give the player many new challenges.
Unfortunately, it will likely not appeal to many, as some of the holes are virtually unplayable. But if you want to test your 6-wood a lot, and hit some 290 yard 9 irons, and drive a par 5, give Real Crazy Golf a whirl.
To The Designer: JPO, this review likely sounds negative, but hopefully you can continue to learn the craft. Your imagination is certainly there, and I liked some of your hole ideas. Your next step should be to consult some of the tutorials here at LC, or to ask some of the helpful folks in the Designer's Forum, and keep trying. One thing that is very easy to include, and would
have been very helpful is a recorded round. I'd love to see how you play the "island" hole 6th.

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg) |
Description Imaginary, concept course |
Location TBA |
Conditions TBA |
Concept 5/10 Crazy golf indeed. This mental-bending course tries to push shotmaking to
the limit with a series of wackily - and occasionally very cleverly -
designed holes. It misses more often than it hits, due to misjudgement of
difficulty and landscaping and technical problems, but many people will
revisit it for novelty value and to try and perfect a shot or two. |
Appearance 0/10 This is not pretty in any way, shape or form. While the designer - creditably - has concentrated on providing a golfing test, he has
lavished virtually none on the landscape. Extrusions are exceedingly crude and several bunkers and lakes are not extruded at all.
Planting is monotonous, uninspired and awkward. The plot isn't big enough. I could go on, but suffice to say there isn't visually a
redeeming feature on this course. |
Playability 5/10 This course was designed to engage the player. Unfortunately, it's made a big slip-up in this area, because unless you can hit perfect
shots time after time then the course becomes frustrating and annoying. The linear, 'skill'-centred nature of the holes means minimal
risk/reward. There is some enjoyability, of course, due to the wackiness of the hole design, but it's not half as much fun as it should be. |
Challenge 0/10 If you play this without mulligans, I predict you'll do very well for your patience to survive 18 holes. Several areas of the course are
almost impossibly hard; incessant hazarding, tiny greens and massive elevations do not make for simple golf. To provide some sort of
concession, the greens are nearly all pancake-flat, but this is just artificial challenge at its worst. |
Technical 0/10 Very poor. Stock textures with harsh transitions, repetitive planting and very amateur elevation work all make the designer's lack of
experience obvious. The panorama doesn't match, the shapes are distinct and separate, and there is no subtlety in any area of the
course. However inspired the idea, the execution is woeful. |
Overall |
A wasted idea. Fun to play intermittently, but lacking the real finesse that makes
other concept courses play so well. |
10/50 |
