LINKS CORNER REVIEW |
Reviewed by James Wood
First Impressions:
This is a fictional course with a park style setting. Planting here is done with the pine tree look that fits in with Whistlers Mountain being used as a panorama. No under planting has been done. The fairways are very wide with no first cut of rough. The bunkers here are mixed. Some are done with just the edges turned, some with a 2nd extrusion with no edge turned, and yet others with a 2nd extrusion with the edge turned. The dirt used after extruding the 2nd time was apparently not mapped. Water is also mixed here with some of the numerous lakes edged with rock, some with just a turned edge and a lot of creeks. The running water texture just doesn't appeal to me. It's very difficult to get that texture to look correct.
Strategy:
Too many holes are of the lay up short of the hazards and then hit a long second shot into a green guarded by a lake or other hazard. There was an island hopper par 4 and an island green on the par 5 17th. That green is reachable but very risky. Two of the other par 5's are very reachable in two. There are a lot of elevation changes on the course. The greens are very mixed with some being of the pool table variety well others have a lot of contour.
Favorite Hole:
The par 3 14th hole was interesting.
Overall:
The course looks pretty good with few bad edges and shadows. The strategy got a little better on the back nine but the front nine wasn't much of a challenge. There are a lot of good golf courses being released right now so I can't really recommend this one.
