COURSE NOTES
This is my first attempt with the APCD as can probably be seen but im reasonably happy with my 1st attempt. I have added a splash screen and some custom flags. I wanted to release this course, rather than delete it seeing as though im about to venture onto a second course.
If only one person enjoys this course then i feel my job is done.
There are no sounds nor hole previews included.

Background Info:
This is the 1st course designed by David and is a 2003 design. Here is a little bit from the readme:

Overall Impressions:
This course is a pretty well done for a first course by a designer. The terrain for the course is mostly flat without many elevation changes. But the changes that do occur are done pretty well. There were a couple of spots where the elevation changes did create some blind shots but for the most part the changes in elevation were done pretty well.

The fairways for the most part are well contoured and designed to be pretty open. There is a little risk/reward scattered throughout the course but for the most part things are pretty straight forward from the tee. A couple of the whole designs limit what clubs can be used because of the extreme doglegs and turns in the fairways. Although this is not a big deal, it does happen more than I would have liked to see it happen.

The greens are rather large for the most part and while most of the greens are contoured quite nicely there were a couple of them that were a bit extreme. A couple to watch out for if you are using Firm, Fast conditions would be #3, #5, #7, and #9. Although I characterize them as 'extreme' that is not to say that they are unfair, as in other conditions they would be just fine. There were also some pin placements that were dangerously close to the edge of the green(Hole #15 is an prime example of this.)

The bunkers are well placed throughout the course but only a few of them really come into play unless of course your shots get away from you, then they are more troublesome. The design technique of the bunkers needs to be improved and I am sure as the designer gains more experience with the APCD this will happen. I think that bunkers are some of the hardest items to create on a golf course with the APCD.

There are occasional shadows created from verts that are slightly out of place.(Hole #6) But for the most part the course is constructed pretty well from a technical aspect of the APCD.

The planting of the course is done pretty well and has some of the usual '1st Design' types of problems. Next to doing bunkers planting has to be the hardest aspect of designing a course. There are so many good ideas going on throughout this course that things begin to look to busy. The trees are placed very well and come into play from a strategic standpoint more than the bunkers do at times. But there are some repeated trees throughout the course. The underplanting of the course is where things get a bit busy. Which is normal for a first design. I think with more practice David will get this under control.

The textures of the course are done pretty well. There are no seam blends throughout the course but since this is a first design that is understandable. I hope that Mr. Holmes adds them to future courses as they really do add a lot to the course.

Closing comments:
Although this course is a first design there are some very good ideas going on throughout the course. I especially enjoyed the tree stumps that appear throughout the course. It gives the player the feeling that the course was cut out of the forest. I think that David Holmes will create some excellent golf courses if he takes the time to refine his course design techniques. It was a pleasure reviewing this course I hope to see more courses from David.

"I am writing this review from the viewpoint of not only a player but as a Tour Director. Although I am not a designer I understand the work that goes into a design as I have beta tested many courses and my review is simply how I as a player/Tour Director would view this course."
