LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Designer: This is Jörg Dommermuth's first released course to the community.

Course: Due to the extreme elevation changes found throughout the course, the course is not very realistic in terms of its design. Most of the hole designs are cloned, with each one generally being dead straight, a dogleg or an s-bend Par 5. If you are a player that likes a traditional golf course with realistic challenges, then this isn't for you.

Favourite Hole: My favourite hole would have to be the Par 3 Hole 14, as it is the only hole anywhere near remotely playable or realistic on the course.

Playability: As the course is over 9500 yards long from the back tees, breaking Par is quite a challenge when playing on Desert Sands. There are no realistic chances for birdies, let alone eagles, and with the lack of Par 3's, there is nowhere for the golfer to take a break from the continuous amounts of lengthy Par 5's. Because of the elevation changes and severe slope in the greens, you may find yourself having three putts or worse on occasion, with the ball often rolling right back to where you putted it from. If the course was shorter and didn't have greens as severe as the ones included, then it would have been more playable, but in its current state, it is hard to find any enjoyment when playing on Desert Sands.

Technically: In terms of APCD work, this course is not very good, as it has quite a lot of technical flaws. The 2D objects and planting are completely oversized, the elevations in the fairways and greens are unrealistic and often had bad edges, while even though most areas are clean cut, no advanced techniques such as seam blending can be found throughout the course. Many of the sounds don't match the location of the course, while because of the drop offs near the greens due to the poor elevation work, some of the holes become near impossible to play. The panorama was all right, except that it didn't match up with the land plot in many areas, while the ladies tees were longer than the forward ones. If the designer wishes to continue creating more courses in the future, I would recommend reading all the available APCD tutorials, perhaps some books on course design, and to get the course beta tested, as in the end, courses are generally made for the enjoyment of players in the community, thus it is a good idea to get feedback from them.

Other: The course does have a cameo, custom flag and a splash screen, but does not include handicaps, hole previews or any tournament options. The concept of a course set out in the middle of a desert is not a new one, and even though this course is classified as being Fictional, it is more like an Imaginary course to the extreme. If the course was better designed in terms of its APCD work, and had more innovative hole designs, then it would have been more fun to play.

Download Value: At just over 5mb, the course is a quick download for users of any speed internet, however, I could only recommend it to people who enjoy playing non-conventional or extremely long courses. Considering the lack of extras, quality APCD techniques or realism in terms of playability, I will not be keeping this course on my hard drive or burning it to a CD
