COURSE SCREENSHOTS

LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Mordhel Academy is Leigh Seaman's second attempt at designing for Links 2003. His other design, Laddleton Lake was a top 25 course.

First Impressions:
The splash screen was nice and gave me the impression that the designer was serious and this wasn't just a course that was thrown together. As I move to the 1st tee, I take a quick second to look at the hole. The textures color was good, weren't too many sharp edges and had a nice little lake for my enjoyment. As I made my way around the course, I was impressed with the various hole yardages, bunkering, and planting.

Technically:
This course is very fundamentally sound. I would however, like to see bigger lips on the bunkers, but that isn't a big issue. The planting was very good. There wasn't an abundance of a certain type of tree, and the housing areas on the sides of the greens made the course look very realistic.

Course Difficulty:
Not all that difficult. As long as you have the right club in your hand, you shouldn't have any problems.

Other:
There aren't any hole previews on this course. The designer admits to not knowing the program very well. This is an 18 hole layout. The first nine holes are very playable. The back nine (if you choose to play it) is basically one tee placement and a pin surrounded by trees. The first time I played it, I was wondering if something had gone horribly wrong with the file. After reading the readme file, the designer knows about what happened to the last nine holes and it is not an error with the .crz file.

My favorite hole:
The 5th. I'm kinda partial to long par 3's. I consider them to be an art that is overlooked in modern course design. At 235 yards, it was just a comfortable 4 wood up the hill. After missing my shot by an inch. I looked at the screen with amazement, my shot had lipped out of the hole and stopped an inch from the cup. Talk about rub of the green!

Playability
It's a fun course to try to test your skills on. Mr. Seaman seems to like par 3 courses, can't wait until he comes out with a full 18 hole layout.

Download Value:
At 21 MB...it's not a bad download. Remember, only the first nine holes are playable. This course won't be staying on my hard drive at the moment. I know that this designer is capable of just about anything if he puts his mind to it. When he comes out with a full 18 hole layout, it will be a definite keeper. If you have a fast connection, why not give this course a try?

Overall:
I'm impressed with this second attempt by Mr. Seaman. At age 13, he has talent that some of the older crowd using APCD wish they had. Keep up the good work Leigh. It's nice to see a young designer. With courses like this, he'll be close to the likes of Selberg, MJ, and Patscheck.
