This is remarkably nice for a first course, not outstanding but playable. He made pleasant looking tee boxes but the texture here as well as the rest of the course doesn't look like we expect a course made in the 2003 APCD to look like. The mowed, undulating, sloped fairways have a nice texture also as does the dormant grass that serves as his first cut. This leads into a fairly common looking rough which of course is followed by a heavy stand of nicely assorted trees with wild grass, brush, bushes and flowers which along with the occasional colorful trees give an autumn look to the course. The greens aren't heavily textured but have an ample fringe, which I found to be helpful to me when the pin placement was close to the edge, I like to chip. His bunkers are nicely made but very common and not very imaginative in their shape. They were strange in the fact that he had both tan sand bunkers and white sand bunkers on the same course, odd looking. Seam blending doesn't seem to be evident here, I saw extrusion lines quite often on the fairways and oh no.Whistlers Mountain rearing it's familiar head one last time.please never again. The water hazards were nicely lined with rock and he used many rocks both medium and small in and around the course along with flowerbeds, it is an eye-catching course.
The fairways were a little under medium sized with an occasional wide one sneaking in. They were undulating and sloped, sometimes to the point that if you didn't hit them dead center the ball would roll into the first cut, a little to extreme for me. The greens varied between flat and sloped but they seemed to be fairly easy or maybe a shade over easy, yep I like it that way. If I didn't have a great deal of loft to my approach shots the ball rolled quite a bit on the back slopes of them. Blind shots, I hope you are a fan of them, they are here in abundance. They seem to make up for the holes that don't show a great imagination in their shape. I found the top view to be a necessity because of them. The elevations varied between minor like most courses and medium major, they led to a driver's heaven, my average was much higher here than most courses. The caddie seemed to be more than sufficient.
This isn't the best course that I've ever played or seen, it really doesn't present too much of a challenge under my rather benign playing conditions, it is as I said very nice looking especially for a first course but common as a playing course. It's obvious by all the work he put into it that he has some interest and talent, the best that he could do is ask questions in the designers corner and have his next course beta tested. Would I recommend this as a keeper, no I'm afraid not. Is it a good bet for a download especially with the small number of courses we have been getting as of late, yes I would recommend downloading it. Don't expect a miracle course but it will be a nice time spent.
