LINKS CORNER REVIEW |

September 2003
Two items if I may, this is his second course and his first course (Waterworld) was uploaded only 3 weeks prior to this. The download may be 21.3mb but the course is only 14.2mb, the rest consisted of 15 screen shots and 1 read-me. This is the way the course looked to me. The tee box had a nice smooth texture and the mowed fairways were only looked slightly as if they were made in the 2003 style of the APCD. The fairways didn't have a first cut and the blend to the deep rough wasn't a blend but a sharp line between the two. It then led into deep grass under a heavy growth of trees with bushes and brush of many types acting as the undergrowth. The greens had a checkerboard pattern with a fringe. As for the bunkers they where few in number and the ones both on the fairway and greenside were quite ineffectual. He also used water on this course but with the exception of one hole (#9) it too was more for decoration than anything else, yes they were nicely constructed but nothing exceptional. The fairways were wide and had slight slopes, which of course causes you to stop and place your approach shots very carefully. Why carefully, the greens were varied in shape and small, you'll find this a chipping course if you play the greens fast and firm.
This course is long and with minor elevation changes plays even longer. The caddie proved to be accurate in his choice of clubs but I still had to make minor trajectory changes. The greens ran the gamete of sloping from minor breaks to heavy but not unreasonable slopes. I would classify the putting under my test conditions as just below medium, not bad at all. He had some very interesting hole shapes and they didn't seem to be fantasy type but interesting. They could have been much more challenging. The water hazard that I mentioned on hole # 9 wasn't too difficult but the wooden bulkhead that you will see from the tee seems massive.
This, his second course, was much better than his first and as a designer he shows promise. Beta test the course before you let it loose next time. The main hazard of this course was forehead injury from falling asleep and hitting the keyboard. It's boring, long and boring. The fairways didn't prove to be a challenge at all. If anyone doesn't hit everyone they shouldn't be playing golf. They're wide, fine, but give me some danger not driving practice, yes the greens will give you a challenge but they are only one part of the course and with beta testing and more time spent building one course instead of two it could have had the features that the new APCD offers, seam blending and better textures. Would I recommend this course for download, certainly. It looked nice enough and was very playable, probably better under extra harsh conditions but all in all it's not as terrible as most. Next time please leave out the screen shots and keep the download easier for the dial-up players, its fine for us broadband users but release for everyone. Play it and try it you might enjoy it more than you think.
