LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by

A portion of his read-me:

"Landscape created with part of crla_bathy.dem - heavy modified in some areas."

"Added edges of stone to the bunkers for extra random bounces,
- to your luck or ... contra - ehum."

"Stone textures taken with my Digital Mavica MVC-FD7."

"Hole Previews for the greens only."

A little history about this course later. The velvet textured patterned tee boxes are very nicely done. The fairways have a wide mow pattern that give the illusion of length to the holes, he didn't have a first cut and they led into a mottled matted looking rough that had an interesting apperance. This of course led into the tree line, which was full of an excellent assortment that had an undergrowth of deep wildgrass and brush with the occasional bush in place. The greens had a pattern and fringe both with a heavy texture that was surprisingly good for a 2001 course. The bunkers were as he said rimmed with rock (marble) and gave one h*** of a bounce to the ball if you hit it. Sometimes the bounce was of great help and other times it, well, didn't work to my benefit. The subtle slopes to the fairways gave me some time to rethink how to allow for them and were a nice touch. As for size, the fairways were quite ample but the bunker placement made the driving quite challenging to say the least. They were few in number but always seemed to be in the way. The greens were medium to medium large and not very difficult to maneuver around. They had a few minor slopes and breaks to the putting but overall were fairly flat and I would definitely call them easy. They should be played under harsh conditions for a challenge.

The course had varying elevations that necessitated club trajectory change, which is some thing I enjoy. The caddie proved excellent. The only holes to watch your club selection are the 3 pars, they did have enough changes to make me rethink club selection and they were fun. I can see a few ace opportunities here. I would almost call this a 'woodland-imaginary' course because of the repetitive shapes and distances to holes # 1, # 2, # 3, and # 4, quite an unusual layout for a course and it was greeted with mixed feeling by other players. A word about hole # 10, I would suggest to lay-up with a 2 iron, watch out for the fairway slope and go for the green with a 2 iron again, worked for me.

This and another course were languishing on Edvins computer for more than a year and a half. He originally had problems uploading them and waited until our system was easier to navigate. You will be seeing another course soon; all he needs to do is add a cameo, splash and a little tweaking. It is an unusual course as far as looks and play are concerned but I found it very playable and because of the size of the download in this day of huge courses this could be an interesting diversion from the norm. I feel that with some beta testing he could be putting out some very nice courses for us if he wishes to invest the time, these courses were made for him to play with friends and giving them to us was an afterthought. Download it and I believe you'll enjoy it.
