LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner' April 2003

This is listed as an 'Imaginary' course, the tee boxes seemed normal, the mowed fairways, without a first cut, seemed normal, the patterned greens with a fringe seemed normal but the 'desert' looked like it had been burned. It was black and gray, later starting at about hole # 9 'desert sand' showed up looking sort of like patterned sand. This is of course different from 'desert', Imaginary, remember? Starting at hole # 12 to the left of the tee box a patch of blue came into the picture, it read 'ocean', Imaginary, remember? This appeared intermittently throughout the final holes. To keep the size of the file down we have to have repeating trees, they are most noticeable on hole # 10, just to the left of the tee box. The course started strangely, I remember in his rather brief read-me that this was to be a desert course and hole # 1 had huge beautiful full trees, they were of course blocking my view of the green, something else to be carried on (a theme?) throughout the course, blind shots. These courses had very narrow winding fairways not to heavily guarded but there were poorly made bunkers both on the fairways and the greens. The putting was the only saving factor in this course although at times the slopes were a little too extreme.

What can I say nice about this course, his choice of color for the grassy areas was nice, pleasant and stock. The elevations were interesting and the caddie was very acceptable. The reason I think for this being a number 2 was that the first course had huge trees completely blocking one of the drives, he pulled the course and put a huge bent trunk with an arch in it's place, yes I have both copies and the first was unplayable because of the trees.

I reviewed his first course 'Victor Harbor' and his 'technique' hasn't improved much, in fact with an Imaginary course it seems to have downhill. To me an Imaginary course is, Wacky World Of Golf, Rivendale, Box Canyon, Angland Challenge, Midnight, Piazza Metalica, Rocky Nuts etc. This course would have improved if he had it beta tested as I suggested in the write-up of his first course. What the significance of the numbers across the splash mean escapes me and I did find a letter in the sky (used for design points) at one point, it was obviously missed in the final cut of the course. Would I suggest downloading this course to you, don't bother, this seems to be a hobby with him and much to his credit he can do something that I wouldn't attempt, building a course, good or bad. But if he does it, there are so many people willing to look the course over or just to answer questions so he can put out something that others will enjoy, too bad he can use the tools but they aren't doing anything worthwhile. Good luck to you Mr. Mulder and enjoy your hobby. I enjoy mine but I hate parts of it, the parts where I have to condemn a course because it's not very good. Get it tested next time, assign more top views for shadows, make the fairways wider, use more varieties of trees, use better textures from APCD 1.5 and give yourself and us a more playable course, this one was to a point, but.

Reviewer Note

I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
