No dice on the paintbrush-like behavior of the mouse tho... THEN I tried using a 16-bit resolution instead of the 32-bit one. Thought I had the problem solved!!! When the screen came up at the new setting, it looked GREAT! And NO "painting" with the mouse!!!
OK, now time to try a game... I started up a QuickPlay game, and promptly saw my player disappear just like when using the 32-bit screen...
Well, changes made it a little better. Now all I need is someone to give me a hand getting it fixed the REST of the way!!! |
For 1920x1200, change the value, in the registry, to 15. You won't see that resolution in the Graphics set up, but you will be running at 1920x1200.

OK ... These are the values that I can determine with my hardware:
15 - 1920 x 1200 (thanks, langle!)
14 - 1920 x 1080 (thanks, Mick!)
13 - 1808 x 1008 (thanks, BruceWallace!)**
12 - 1680 x 1050 *
11 - 1440 x 900
10 - 1366 x 768 **
9 - 1360 x 768 **
8 - 1280 x 960 **
7 - 1280 x 800
6 - 1280 x 768 **
5 - 1280 x 720
4 - 1600 x 1200 ***
3 - 1280 x 1024 ****
2 - 1024 x 768 ****
1 - 800 x 600 ****
* This only works on my computer in Full Screen Mode
** This only works in Windowed Mode on my computer
*** I know this value from my desktop computer
**** These are the original values from 1.05
I'm sure some can fill in 13 and 14. I believe 15 is the largest possible value.

even more bizarrely, if you play in a window, as I do, the meters are locked on LARGE, which I find Ok for ps/rts, but VERY fast for classic swing. and on some of the windowed resolutions, all the game control buttons (in the stance settings window for example) are stuck on LARGE too, making them really cumbersome to use

I have an interesting glitch on my computer.
I use a Samsung 225BW Monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050. It is powered by an ATI X1950 Pro 512Mb 256bit AGP graphics card. However, even if I set the device mode to 12, as listed, when I reopen Links, it only allows up to 1360x780.
And, when I return to the regedit function, it has reset itself to either 7 or 8 and will not hold the number 12 setting.
I would love to see the panoramic view in 1680 but it is not happening. The situation is the same whether I am running Windows XP or Windows 7 RC. It did this even before I added Windows 7 or LinuxMint 7 OSs.
System components:
OCZ ModXStream 780W PSU
MSI K8T Neo2 ver.2 motherboard with VIA K8T800 Pro + 8237R chipsets
AMD Opteron 175 2.2GHz Dual-Core Socket 939 @2.4GHz
2Gb Kingston HyperX DDR400 @ 2-3-2-6-1 - 2.65V
Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro 512Mb 256bit AGP 8X
2x 250Gb Seagate SATA hard drives
Samsung 225BW monitor
Windows XP Pro + Windows 7 RC + LinuxMint 7 Gloria

Hi Mate, after setting it to 12, there is no need to go back to graphic options, it is already set at 1680 x 1050.
I used to have that monitor and had the same situation.
Just set it to 12 and go play.
Take a screenie and check its properties and you will find all is well.

Thanks, Kanga. I will check that out.
That was just what I needed. Details are much sharper and a lot more screen. Too bad the darn swing meter gets so small at that resolution. But, It doesn't seem to have affected my swing, it still sucks, lol.

Sorry, not a brain teaser at all.
Page up a few posts and you will see the list of all available resolutions allowed under v1.07 which aren't native to Links.
The 1600x900 resolution you desire does not exist for links. The closest you can come without going over is 1440x900. However, this resolution is 16:10 and not in the correct ratio for your monitor.
I suggest using a 1360x768 resolution. This is the closest 16:9 resolution offered in v1.07. To get this resolution, set your registry value to 9.
Or, you could use 1280x720 by setting the registry to 5. Either one will work to give you a 16:9 widescreen resolution within the max rating of your monitor. Neither is perfrect, but they come close.
If it is not clear enough for your liking, then perhaps consider playing one of those in windowed mode, to improve the clarity.

Don't change anything under Links Graphics Settings, once you change the registry number. That should be what action is changing the registry number back to one. Once you set the registry number, to the resolution you desire, you should not have to do anything else. Just ignore the resolutions in Graphics Settings, as changing the number gives you what you want.

Yep, that's exactly what I do but it still keeps going back to mode 1.
ARGHH!!! LOL!!!
Unfortunately I'm running this new system on Vista 64 bit. I wonder if that may make a difference? Sometimes after I do this Links will show a screen on startup that says something like my resolution is below the minimum of 800 x 600 and then it closes and goes back to the desktop.

Hi Rehit,
I'm using the Win7 64-bit RC, and have nothing but problems. I suspect it's the video card I'm using....nVidia GeForce 9600GT OC by BGFTech. I had it replaced due to a known issue with the chip. If you're not having any issues, may I ask what type of video card you're using?
Many thanks,

I have read through all of these posts, I have tried everything posted, I even spent 2 hours uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, but the best I can get in registry Mode is 3, and 1280 x 1024 on game resolution (trust me I have checekd every way posted).
Yet my resolution is 1920 x 1080 with a brand XPS Studio 16 running an ATI Radeon 1GB graphic card. The graphics are awesome, but I can't get this to go 1920. My older computer that can't handle the graphics yet it could still push 1920, but my new one can't.
Can anyone help?

I'm not sure what all has been suggested/recommended in this thread, but you should also follow the suggestoins/recommendations in the "How to Get Links and APCD to work with Vista" thread. If you've tried everything within these two threads, then I don't know that anyone can suggest anything else to try.
Just as a summary, when you're making the registry changes in WinXP or Vista (probably the same in Win7, but I am not sure):
1. Ensure Links recognizes your video card or those in the same ATI family; this may require you editting the videocard.txt file with information gathered from running DXDIAG.
2. Ensure you are logged in as Administrator.
3. Ensure Links 2003, v1.07 is installed correctly.
4. Ensure Links is closed when you make the registry changes.
5. Ensure that you start Links under Vista with "elevated Administrator privileges".
6. Once you've changed the registry, the graphic mode will NOT necessarily show in the Links game; check the SYSTEM INFO screen to see what resolution is being displayed.
It may be that newer graphic cards aren't recognized/supported by the game - I'm guessing you may be able to "trick" Links into seeing it as a newer, but perhaps not correct, video card.

I need a bit of further info and I think this will make it work:
1. How do I edit the videotext.txt file?
2. I am the administrator (as far as I can tell new to Vista)
3. 1.07 correctly istalled (as far as I can tell, all new features are going)
4. Links is closed making registry changes, just not staying
5. Previous threads say run in Windows XP SP1 with changes under, how do you run elevated Administrator
6. I can follow this one.
This sounds like it might work because it does look like it doesn't recognize my new card.
thanks
